Fresh water catchment and runoff

Image
An area of land that is used to collect rain water is called a catchment. There can be artificial and natural catchments. Artificial catchments are made in areas where infiltration of runoff zone is higher. In natural conditions, water flowing over landscapes finds its way into streams, into the soil, and eventually the river. Not all water flows over landscape, some remain underground and keep feeling the river when rainfall is low. Precisely, every inch of land on the earth serves like a catchment.   Artificial ones are fresh water catchments which help in rainwater harvesting. Not all catchments are same in size. They range greatly in size from small urban sub-catchments to larger and massive catchments that may span across states.   In artificial settings,  fresh water catchment & runoff  are interrelated. Catchments are essential in areas with high infiltration rate. In natural conditions, catchments are complex and any event in one part of the catchm...
